CCY Architects recognized at Italian architecture festival Concurrent To Prestigious 2021 Venice Biennale of Architecture
Gammel Damm, a recently completed house designed by CCY Architects, has been chosen for Casa Platform exhibition at the Biennale di Architettura Venezia 2021. This project was selected by an international jury for PLATFORM’s 2021 Best International Houses awards program, which opens to the public on May 22 and remains on view through August 22, 2021.
Taking place during the 17th International Biennale di Architettura Venezia 2021, PLATFORM’s Best International Houses Best International Houses exhibition will feature 70 projects from design studios around the world. The exhibition is hosted by the Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Misericordia in the district of Cannaregio in Venice, Italy.
Located on a mountainside site near Aspen, Colorado, Gammel Damm is a house designed by CCY Architects, and an example of the firm’s work in contemporary alpine architecture. Clad in weathered cedar, Shou Sugi Ban, and concrete, this modern family retreat, completed in 2016, was inspired by the rugged simplicity and warmth of Scandinavian mountain cabins and their natural environments. This home has received international acclaim and recognition, including awards from AIA Western Mountain Region, AIA Colorado, and International Design Awards.
“In material, massing, and program, Gammel Damm is a direct response to its Rocky Mountain setting. In spirit, it was inspired by drawing connections to the spectacular site and the client’s Norwegian heritage. In that way, it is at once site specific and informed by international influences, so it is an honor to be recognized by PLATFORM during this international exhibition. This home reflects a value important to all that we do at CCY: that the work we produce engages the land and defers to the extraordinary sites on which we are so privileged to work.”
PLATFORM is a Milan based publication covering today’s international architecture, interiors and design culture and project creators. Their readership is tailored toward design professionals and enthusiasts.
